Before the actual Church was erected, around the year 600 the abbot Sant'Antonino founded an oratory devoted to St. Martin Vescovo of Tours to peak on the sea. In the XIV century the Franciscan monks promoted the construction of the Church, subsequently modified in Baroque style. The ancient Benedictine cloister was referred by the Conventual ones with ogival arcades woven on octagonal pillars.
The Franciscan church, that had become wealthy in the 1550 of a precious wooden choir gone lost, was modified completely between 1690 and 1727 and it preserves the plant realized in that epoch. You façade is in white marble, built in 1926 on the occasion of the seventh centennial of the death of St. Francis.
On the most greater altar, in a monumental marmoreal framing, it is the cloth with St. Francis that receives the 1735 stimmates. On the first right altar there is also a wooden sculpture it raffigurante St. Francis given in 1663 by the family Volcano.
